Trading Recap Focus Video

Tonight’s Trading Focus video breaks down this morning’s Baltimore Chop setup in BBIO and how a two-standard-deviation opening-gap trade created the kind of clean, rules-based opportunity that can define an entire trading day.

The lesson is not just about the entry. It is about preparation, structure, and trade management. Once the setup appeared, the trade plan was clear: identify the trigger, define the stop, map the target using nearby volume-by-price structure, and then let the trade work without micromanaging every tick.

As the trade developed, BBIO pulled back, triggered the short entry, and moved toward the projected target area exactly as planned. From there, the focus shifted to managing the position intelligently by tightening risk, protecting the trade, and allowing the setup to complete.

The bigger takeaway is that opening trades do not have to become emotional events. When the plan is built before the trade is placed, traders do not need to sit there sweating every candle. They can let their rules, automation, and preparation do the work.

This is a great example of how a disciplined opening gap strategy can create an efficient trade early in the session, allowing traders to book the opportunity and move on with the rest of the day.

Today's Trading Recap

Daily Market Briefing — Friday, July 10, 2026

Market pulse

The early tape is risk-off beneath a relatively calm S&P 500 surface. Shortly after the opening bell, SPY was essentially flat near $751.60, while QQQ was down about 0.3% and IWM was off roughly 0.8%. That divergence matters: investors are trimming both high-duration technology exposure and economically sensitive small caps rather than broadly abandoning equities.

Overnight markets were generally constructive. Japan’s Nikkei gained about 1.2%, European shares edged higher, and the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield eased to roughly 4.55%. However, Nasdaq futures weakened before the open as traders took profits following Thursday’s AI-led advance.

Trading impact: This looks more like rotation and position adjustment than indiscriminate liquidation. Watch whether QQQ and IWM can regain their opening ranges. Continued relative weakness in both would argue against chasing an apparently stable S&P 500.

The dominant macro risk: Iran, oil and inflation

Renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities and Iranian counterattacks in the Gulf have disrupted regional shipping and pushed oil and refined-product prices higher. Brent crude entered Friday with a weekly gain of roughly 5%, despite easing modestly during the session.

The big-picture issue is not simply higher energy-stock earnings. Sustained fuel inflation can:

  • pressure consumer spending and airline margins;
  • keep inflation expectations elevated;
  • reduce the Federal Reserve’s room to ease;
  • raise input costs across transportation, chemicals and manufacturing.

Energy producers may enjoy their strongest profitability since 2022 if supply disruptions persist, while consumers and fuel-intensive businesses bear the cost.

Trading impact: Favor relative-strength setups in integrated energy and refiners, but remain alert to headline-driven reversals. Airlines, transports and consumer cyclicals are the natural pressure points. Oil is currently one of the clearest cross-asset signals for rates and equity multiples.
