GOOG: A Small Loss—and an Important Order-Flow Lesson

Our GOOG plan called for a short as the price moved from the central pivot toward the lower volatility bands. Instead, the stock opened sharply below the pivot and immediately reversed, producing a powerful rally of roughly $12 from its opening low.

After GOOG retraced and began consolidating beneath the central pivot, we attempted the planned short with a deliberately tight stop. The trade failed, resulting in a loss of approximately $1 per share—but the limited risk was appropriate given what Bookmap was revealing.

Nearly 2 million shares traded near the pivot, with no meaningful sell-side liquidity appearing on the order book. Price seemed temporarily contained by algorithmic activity rather than genuine overhead supply. Above the pivot, the liquidity map showed large open spaces with very little resistance, while a substantial buy order remained below the market.

The message was clear: if GOOG broke above the pivot and the remaining sell liquidity began to pull, price would have an easy path higher. That is exactly why the trade required a tight stop. Although the short did not work, recognizing the lack of overhead liquidity kept the loss manageable and prevented it from running through the entire volatility-band range.

Today's Trading Recap

Post-Market Wrap — September 2, 2026

U.S. stocks rebounded Wednesday, snapping a three-session losing streak as buyers returned to technology and communication-services shares. The S&P 500 gained about 0.6%, the Dow rose roughly 0.5%, and the Nasdaq added about 0.5%.

The market benefited from some stabilization in Treasury yields after the recent global bond selloff. The 10-year yield remained near 4.8%, still high enough to pressure valuations, but the lack of another sharp move higher gave growth stocks some room to recover. Oil remains another major concern, with WTI near $90 and Brent around $95, keeping inflation and Fed policy firmly in focus.

Labor-market data also showed additional cooling. ADP reported just 38,000 private-sector jobs added in August, adding to the increasingly complicated Fed picture: employment is slowing while elevated energy prices continue to threaten inflation.

Technology provided much of Wednesday’s strength. Nvidia and Meta moved higher, while Dell surged following strong results and continued demand for AI infrastructure. The response reinforces the market’s willingness to reward companies demonstrating tangible AI-related revenue growth even in a difficult interest-rate environment.

For traders, the key takeaway is that this remains a highly reactive, two-way market. Wednesday began with weaker futures but reversed as yields stabilized and technology leadership emerged. That makes Treasury yields, crude oil, Magnificent Seven relative strength, VWAP, pivots, and order-flow confirmation especially important for determining whether early moves have staying power.

Looking ahead, attention turns increasingly toward Friday’s August employment report. With oil elevated, yields near 4.8%, and expectations for Fed policy shifting quickly, traders should continue to expect elevated intraday volatility and sharp reversals.

Bottom line: Buyers regained control Wednesday, but the broader concerns surrounding rates, inflation, oil, and geopolitics remain unresolved. For now, this is a market better approached through clearly defined levels and confirmation rather than strong directional conviction.
